Alisha
Meet Alisha!
Alisha (she/her) is a west coast-turned-midwest girl! Though Alisha is no stranger to the stage (having done some film/tv/music video work while living in Los Angeles) and has had a love for music and dancing since childhood, due to the size of her body, she wasn’t encouraged to dance in a more public forum beyond the mini dance recitals she created for her family during holidays.
In 2020, Alisha began de-constructing everything she had been taught and believed to be true about herself, including her body and what it “can” and “cannot” and “should” or “should not” do. During that time, she attended her niece and nephews’ dance recital where she was inspired by seeing children of all different body types performing so freely and confidently. It healed a part of her and she decided in that moment that it was time to do what she had never gotten to do in childhood: join a dance class.
It was then that Alisha started to look up adult hip hop classes. Dance Life didn’t offer adult hip hop classes, but (by some seeming miracle) that didn’t stop it from appearing in her search results. After reading Dance Life’s website, she thought it would be the perfect place for her to fit in and be with others who looked like her as she embarked on this new adventure. But Dance Life has turned out to not just be a place where she feels she fits in, but rather a place where she feels like she belongs.
Though her intention was to start taking adult ballet classes at Dance Life, Alisha opted to take Burlesque Fitness to “see how it goes,” and the rest is history, as Alisha still loves Burlesque Fitness and has even now ventured out into the world on her own as a burlesque performer.
The goal of Alisha’s classes is to offer a safe space for people of any body size and type to express themselves in their fullest and most authentic form, try things they perhaps never thought they could or were not “allowed” to do, and build confidence, connection, and safety within their bodies.
Alisha’s classes are for you to come as you are and be as you are because you are enough.
